tillamook row
A carbon-crunching pocket neighborhood in the heart of Northeast Portland
2018 | Portland, Oregon
This 16-unit pocket neighborhood builds upon the success of Ankeny Row, the first net zero energy cluster of its kind, by skillfully balancing urban density, social connection, and livable greenspace. It features an innovative mixture of owner and renter units and a strong community focus with room-sized front porches outside each kitchen window oriented around a sizable common house and courtyard. The units are designed to allow residents to age in community—a significant improvement over age in place.
The homes offer a dramatically reduced carbon footprint with net zero energy performance achieved through a well-insulated, airtight enclosure, triple-pane windows, and high efficiency heat pumps for both heating/cooling and hot water systems.
Dylan Lamar served as project architect and energy consultant for Tillamook Row while at Green Hammer, successfully advancing the project’s strong social, environmental, and aesthetic vision by navigating the complexities of conservation-district zoning criteria, both commercial and residential building codes, and a disciplined economic pro forma.
The owner/developers of the project, BCMC Properties, were an inspiration for Dylan’s future real estate development pursuits.
